The Spoken Word Showcase bring a diverse selection of spoken word poets and storytellers to The Crescent pub in Salford on a semi-regular basis. Though only a recent addition to Manchester’s literary scene, the Spoken Word Showcase is already attracting attention and could be a worthy contender to rival more established nights like Bad Language and First Draft. Returning for their third event on Thursday 19 June, acts include performance poet Zach Roddis (whose new book Selected Tweets is due to be released this week) and Keri-Ann Edwards, co-editor of online creative writing magazine Bunbury. Among others, James Clayton – one half of Manchester-based anti-folk duo Crywank – will also perform. The Crescent, a Grade II listed building and alleged former haunt of Karl Marx, provides an intimate setting and a wide range of real ales to compliment a relaxed evening of captivating performances.
