The remainder of March is all about theatre at Waterside, with three new shows that should appeal across the board and across the ages. There’s feminist funnyiness with Katie Arnstein’s Bicycles & Fish, self-deprecating storytelling from real-life rapper Testament, and a magical tale spanning the generations in Kite, perfect for the kids.

Theatre: Bicycles & Fish
Katie Arnstein’s critically acclaimed Vault Festival Best Show award-winner Bicycles & Fish pops into Waterside as part of a UK tour, combining comedy, storytelling and original songs. Katie’s charming award-winning debut show does ‘funny feminist’, recounting the day, aged 16, she stopped being a girl and started being a woman, learning what it means to stand up for yourself. Fri 22 Mar, 8pm, £10-12, watersidearts.org

Theatre: WOKE
Hip-hop MC, poet, theatre-maker and Guinness World Record-breaking beatboxer, real-life rapper Testament reckons to be pretty right on – until his daughter comes into the world. Suddenly he realises the twin juggernauts of hip-hop and feminism are on a collision course, and he wants to avoid a crash. As he tries to reconcile the two sides, he has to face his own prejudices, and this show tells the story, combining spoken word and rapping.
Thu 28 Mar, 7.30pm, £6-12, watersidearts.org

Theatre: Kite
The Wrong Crowd theatre company consistently creates inventive and compelling new work, and play without words Kite is no exception, with an imaginative story, original music, dance and puppetry. Perfect for audiences of all ages over seven, the show sees a recently orphaned girl discover a kite in her Grandma’s obsessively tidy flat – when the toy comes to life and takes her on a wild adventure, she realises Grandma has her own brand of magic.
Fri 29 Mar, 7pm, £10.50-12.50, watersidearts.org

Bicycles & Fish and WOKE are eligible for Waterside’s special TWOPLUS Theatre Offer – book both and get tickets for just £8 each. Kite is eligible for Family Club tickets. See the Waterside website for more details on both special deals.
