The city-wide celebration of some of the planet’s most exciting music returns to Manchester at the end of July, and we’ve picked out four shows from the programme that are worth a closer look.

1. Robert Glasper Trio at RNCM
Don’t miss out on the chance to see Blue Note’s golden-boy at the RNCM. Following his Grammy-winning excursions into R&B and hiphop, Glasper has reconvened his original piano trio for Covered, an album of interpretations of songs by Radiohead, Kendrick Lamarr and more.

2. Jazz on 3 BBC Introducing at Band on the Wall

3. Leeds’ finest at various venues
Leeds has a heavyweight recent pedigree in producing new jazz talent. Catch the city’s freshest acts Cameron Vale, Matt Holborn Quartet and Bugalu Foundation whilst James Mainwaring’s new Tipping Point project play Thwaites Pavilion.

4. Free shows by New York Brass Band in Albert Square
One you don’t need to book for, simply turn up and feel the noise.
