With the nights drawing in and Christmas fast approaching, we’ve picked out a handful of Eventbrite’s regional listings to warm the cockles. Bolton Comic Con ft guest stars from Atlantis & Red Dwarf
Hidden away in a Greater Manchester satellite town, an unwitting individual is sitting on a future superpower that could define the fate of civilisation… It might happen, but while that particular story develops, there’s always Bolton Comic Con, where superheroes rub shoulders with mere mortals in the form of cosplay fancy dress, exhibitions, photo shoots and a long list of guests including Star Wars vocal actors, stormtroopers, Jack Donnelly (Atlantis) and Norman Lovett (Red Dwarf).

New theatre: Winter at 3MT
John Topliff’s play, Winter, borrows elements of the Shakespearian romance in crafting the story of Paul and Leo, boyhood friends whose lives are defined in differing ways by the destruction of war. Promising love and jealousy set in dark, austere times, its five-night run will take place at 3MT.

Learn to draw inspiring women at The Joyce Layland LGBT Centre
This workshop is perfect for those looking to learn how to designing and drawing the human form in pen and ink. With the subject being female icons, the aim of this session is to create a collage of portraits depicting influential and inspirational women. The final piece will be displayed in the venue. The workshop is part of Manchester’s 16 days of street art action series which will see 16 new, public works of art created in the same number of days,

Christmas Fair and Bake Off competition at Didsbury Parsonage
Not content to watch others donning their oven gloves on TV, Didsbury Parsonage Trust has put together a festively themed foodie event for all the family. The friendly competition will be part of their Christmas Fair and welcomes a variety of categories, from mince pies to brownies, cupcakes to chutney. For those who prefer to eat than bake, all entries will be sold after the final results have been announced, with proceeds going to charity.

Free Q&A with artists behind Quays Culture’s new installation, Lightwaves, at the Lowry
Quays Culture have invited the creators of their 2015 winter installation, Lightwaves, for a preview presentation and Q&A at The Lowry. The impressively scaled trio of light sculptures will be open to view for free across Salford Quays from 12-27 December, but in the meantime you can gain an insight into the methods and inspirations behind the production of such illuminated wonders ahead of the launch.
