Kate Goodman, award-winning owner of Reserve Wines (AND wine expert on the BBC’s Food and Drink programme), has launched a new wine school in the heart of Manchester. In partnership with local wine expert, Ian Dogherty, the School of Wine offers wine tasting and fun events that span the spectrum of knowledge from novice to industry expert. There are wine tasting evenings, WSET Qualification courses as well as masterclasses with Kate and corporate functions. The school welcome people getting in touch who’d like to design their own event too, and most events currently take place in Manchester Wire favourite, The Kings Arms pub. The School of Wine describe the courses as ‘a bit like speed dating – but without the embarrassing small talk, and with loads and loads of great wine’. Students taste up to six wines from around the world per session, learning about the production process of both red and white wine on the way, promising that you’ll shop smarter next time you’re in Tesco’s wine aisle. The next course coming up is a three-week intro to wine course, which includes three sessions of two hours tasting around 18 wines.

Manchester Wire readers can get 20% off School of Wine courses using the code SWMA0120.

The next Three Week Intro to Wine courses is on 9, 16 and 23 Apr, The Kings Arms, 11 Bloom Street, Salford, M3 6AN, 7pm-9pm, £27, www.schoolofwine.co.uk
