Psychedelia is the ‘in’ genre this year, with Cosmosis and Manchester Psych Fest just two of countless psych events being set up in response to this boom period. Band on the Wall is set to capitalise on the genre’s new-found popularity too, as it welcomes a double-bill of bands signed to Ample Play Records. Sudden Death of Stars, from Brittany in France, have been compared to Spacemen 3, Brian Jonestown Massacre and Velvet Underground among others, and have the support of James Endeacott, the A&R guru who signed The Strokes and The Libertines. The Hypnotic Eye (pictured), meanwhile, are a London five-piece who look like they’ve arrived via a time machine from 1967. They will be blending R’n’B, psychedelia, pop and rock ’n’ roll for this showcase organised by Ample Play, the label set up by Tjinder Singh and Ben Ayres from Cornershop. To win a pair of tickets to the show, simply email the answer to the question below, plus your name, age, phone number and Twitter handle, to competitions at manchesterwire dot co dot uk with the subject line ‘Ample Play competition’. We’ll contact the winner on Sunday 2 March.
