Z-arts, Manchester’s arts centre for young people, has announced a brand new ‘multi-themed’ escape room, The Library of Enchantment, co-created with local families to guarantee thrilling entertainment for children, teens, tweens and parents alike while providing the perfect birthday party, holiday activity or family day out.

Opening on Sat 1 Apr, Z:escape: The Library of Enchantment calls upon teams of three to eight ‘eager escapers, crafty codebreakers and daring decipherers’ to navigate a number of rooms, each themed differently, while a well-meaning but befuddled librarian offers occasional help with a series of complex puzzles. Over sixty nail-biting minutes, visitors must solve the challenges in order to capture Billi the Bookworm and return him safely to his home, before the looming Library Inspector finds him feasting on the books and closes the library down for good.

Unlike many other escape rooms, Z:escape: The Library of Enchantment allows children as young as 8 to enter without an adult, as the Librarian will accompany them throughout, while children aged 6+ can join as part of a family group.

Saskia Metcalf, Head of Creative Development, Z-arts, said: “Children will be challenged to solve puzzles and work as a team to make their escape successfully, ensuring they have fun while developing skills.”

The Library of Enchantment is a very special day out for all ages and is perfect for families with older children who may feel they have outgrown other family activities.”

Z:escape: The Library of Enchantment is located within Z-arts, a young people’s arts centre which includes a children’s library, a year round theatre programme, a cafe, and an interactive Fairy Tales-themed adventure for younger children and preschoolers.

The Library of Enchantment will be open between Tuesdays and Saturdays, with prices starting from £14.40 per person. Click here to arrange your escape room experience.
