Rounding off what has been a pretty incredible year for Faktion, American artist-turned-musician Lonnie Holley will be performing at Islington Mill as part of his debut European tour on the back of his sophomore album Keeping a Record of It. Creating an intriguing combination, Tesla Tapes’ Negra Branca provides the support. See full preview.

Thu 5 Dec | Edan (A/V DJ Set) | Soup Kitchen | 11pm-3am
Resurrected earlier in the year, Slow Down is now almost 20 years old. Edan hasn’t released any music for quite some time now, but 2005’s Beauty and the Beat is seen as a bit of a classic in the weird rap circle. (That’s a thing, right?). With a reputation as an incredible DJ, he’s now added a visual element to his setup; in all likelihood this is going to be quite an experience.

Fri 6 Dec | Gold Teeth ft Todd Edwards | Gorilla | 11pm-4am
Somehow, even though nearly all of his tracks follow the same formula, Todd Edwards manages to get away with playing sets made almost entirely of his own music. Probably because that formula is responsible for some of the greatest dance music ever made. His cut-up vocal sample style is instantly recognisable and can get me quite emotional sometimes – it’s rare that a Swing Ting goes by without a Todd record being played at some point in the night.

Sat 7 Dec | Lord Finesse & Boogie Blind | The Roadhouse | 7pm-10.30pm
It feels like no week goes by without some golden-era hiphop artist turning up in Manchester anymore. Which is a very good thing – he may be well past his prime, but you can’t really mess with Lord Finesse’s CV. Boogie Blind’s Definitive D.I.T.C. mixtape is highly recommended listening at any time of year, but will warm you up nicely for this one.

Sat 7 Dec | Wet Play | Kraak | 10.30pm-4am
Just over the road, Wet Play take over Kraak for the third and final time this year. Joining the residents will be members of Nottingham’s 808 crew and Dave Owen of Stretford party The Social Service fame. Never known for playing it safe, quality levels are consistently high – with advance tickets at £4, it’s very much a low-risk/high-reward scenario.
