Jeffrey Lewis & The Jrams at Deaf Institute

New Yorker Jeffrey Lewis is a singer-songwriter (and well respected comic book artist – watch out for illustrated songs, or ‘low-budget videos’, at his gigs) who is perhaps most known for his lyrical dexterity. Regarded as part of the anti-folk movement, his vocals are off-kilter and tell stories of everyday musings as well as self-deprecating humour that sweetens a somewhat nihilistic world-view. He signed with Rough Trade in 2001 and has since released six albums through the London label. After ensembles of literary delight (Jeffrey Lewis & The Jitters and Jeffrey Lewis & The Junkyard) he resumes his 15-year career as Jeffrey Lewis & The Jrams, because alliteration is awesome. It’s his first show in Manchester for three years, so don’t hang about.
