Snoop Dogg’s Snoopadelic at Gorilla

Big Snoop Dogg has always been hip hop’s renaissance man, unafraid to reinvent himself constantly because at his core, he resonates the same immortal cool he always has done. Recent ventures have seen him turn to reggae and Rastafarianism as Snoop Lion (making a film in the process), reinvest in OG funk with Stones Throw boogie maestro Dam Funk as Snoopzilla for 7 Days of Funk, and broadcast DJ sets from his studio as Snoopadelic. It’s this latter incarnation that hits Manchester on Sunday for a three-hour set (barely three months after his Parklife performance) – but in true fan-pleasing form he’ll also be performing a half-hour live set over the night. Expect all styles for this one as Snoop feeds off the crowd, but there are a couple of his mixes online with which you can whet your appetite: a soulful selection of original songs which were sampled for Doggystyle is here. If you’re up for a bit more bass, check his Loose Joints selection featuring the likes of Toddla T here. Support comes from hype Grime emcee Tempa T (best known for 2009’s jump-up Next Hype) and Chester’s MC Shakespear. Highly recommended, as it’s rare someone this large fits in a venue this intimate.
