The Phantom Band injected some excitement into unassuming listeners with their debut ‘Checkmate Savage’ back in 2009, showing promises of a band who can successfully pull many a genre into one record; even dubbing their sound as ‘proto-robofolk’. The Scottish six-piece, whose vibes have been likened to the Beta Band but more raucous, have been hailed as producers of upbeat keyboard chimes, Krautrock and anthemic choruses, with reviews of live performances hailing them as intensely electrifying. Last year’s ‘Strange Friend’ came after a three-year break but their fourth album Fears Trending is due to be released on 26 January. Submit to their shape-shifting sounds and marvel.
