New Orleans Hot 8 Brass Band at Band on the Wall

The Hot 8 Brass Band, a hugely popular crossover ensemble from New Orleans, are undertaking a world tour which brings them to Band on the Wall later this month. Their music mixes funk and hip-hop with the traditional jazz of their home town. They’ve overcome many tragedies, including Hurricane Katrina and the death of several band members, to celebrate their 20th anniversaryand have gone on to play the Glastonbury and Roskilde festivals, as well as opening for major artists including Mos Def and Lauryn Hill. The band’s story was told in Spike Lee’s documentary When the Levees Broke, and they also appeared in David Simon’s TV show Treme. This gig comes only days after the release of their new album ‘Vicennial’, which is a career-spanning retrospective. Support on the night comes from Brasstracks and local DJ Andrea Trout (AKA Andrea Ahimie-Carthy).
