Few vocalists can rival Omar, the London soul singer who broke through in 1990 with the Ohio Players-influenced love ballad There’s Nothing Like This. In an expansive career, he’s been signed to major labels like RCA and ultra-trendy imprints such as the Parisian Naïve Records and Gilles Peterson’s influential Talkin’ Loud label. He’s also worked with former Motown producers Leon Ware and Lamont Dozier, along with the iconic Angie Stone and Erykah Badu. Support for this Manchester gig comes from rising soul prodigy Georgia Black. And don’t miss the Official Omar Afterparty from 11pm – featuring UK garage guru Zed Bias, a pioneer of modern breakbeat who’s been all over Radio 1. Zed will be supported by Eastern Bloc’s Jim Bane. Entry to the afterparty is £8 advance or, if you’re an Omar ticket-holder, absolutely free.
