Blue Note jazz R&B crossover artist José James showcases music from this year’s LP, Love in a Time of Madness, at Manchester’s Band on the Wall at the end of October. Taking in aspects of dubstep and soulful hip hop, he’s received a heavyweight 7.3 rating from tastemaking from Pitchfork – which gives you some idea of the talent on show. The latest record is a change in direction from previous recordings, which included 2015’s tribute to Billie Holiday and the rockier While You Were Sleeping. But James is nothing but flexible, and recently appeared in Fifty Shades Darker. Support on the night comes courtesy of Romario and Andrea Trout.
Tue 31 Oct, Band on the Wall, 25 Swan Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester, M4 5JZ, Tel: 0161 834 1786, 7pm, £14-£18, www.bandonthewall.org
