British jazz shining light Courtney Pine has been named as Band on the Wall’s next Jazz Director. Now over 30 years since his acclaimed debut LP, Journey to the Urge Within, the scene-defining saxophonist follows in the footsteps of Terence Blanchard, Chris Potter and Zoe Rahman by leading the latest incarnation of the Inner City Ensemble for what will be four spectacular live shows, spanning Manchester, Leeds, Clitheroe and Lancaster. The role begins with a four-day residency at the iconic Manchester venue to fine-tune the Ensemble. The line-up comprises of some of the most promising and exciting emerging musicians working today, and includes previous Snarky Puppy, Sons of Kemet, Pharoahe Monch and Terence Blanchard collaborators, as well as alumni of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and Berklee College of Music.
