February’s food news features more exciting openings for the south Manchester suburb of Chorlton with Cantor’s Food Store, an Ottolenghi’s inspired deli restaurant announced for early March. Head chef Adam Reid from The French at The Midland Hotel announces a collaboration with Kevin Tickle of the Michelin-starred Cumbrian restaurant at The Forest Side. Rudy’s Pizza have a second shop, as do Mowgli and there are some one-off foodie events to get us through the cold February weekends.
Opening soon: Cantor’s Food Store in Chorlton
It’s an exciting time for Chorlton with the opening of Mary Ellen McTague’s The Creameries, and the announcement this week that the leafy South Manchester suburb will be soon be home to a new deli restaurant. Inspired by Yotam Ottolenghi’s successful London eateries, we expect flavours to draw from the mediterranean and the Middle East, relaxed dining and a decent shop with dishes pre-made to take away or eat in. Behind the venture is Eddy Cantor, local food enthusiast who has previously owned delis in London and worked as a private chef.

Kevin Tickle at The French: Head chef at the Michelin-starred Forest Side country house hotel in Cumbria comes to the French for a collaboration with resident chef Adam Reid. Former ‘chief forager’ at L’enclume, Kevin Tickle is known for creating modern, seasonal dishes using ingredients on offer from the surrounding area. Keep an eye on The French’s website for similar upcoming events.

Opening in 2018: Mowgli on Oxford Road
Popular Indian street food restaurant Mowgli announces plans to expand to a second location on Oxford Road. The Indian restaurant chain’s Corn Exchange branch has been a roaring success with both it’s Indian home cooking and extensive cocktail menu proving to be a hit. Along with the opening of the new Hatch development, the city’s eating options seem to be stealthily drifting out of the city livening up an area of the city that was once the domain of the greasy kebab shop.

Last chance to book: Prosecco festival at Manchester Cathedral
For fans of the fizz, a Prosecco festival is coming to Manchester Cathedral this February. The ‘Sparkling Prosecco Event’ feature over 20 different types of Prosecco, Champagne and bubbly-based cocktails. The spectacular cathedral setting will also play host to live DJs, food stalls and a craft ale bar.
