Film/party: Make a Scene presents Pose vogue ball-inspired TV series at Tribeca

A new FX  drama series called Pose, which centres on the vogue ball scene in 1980s New York, has launched in the US. It’s not available in the UK right now, so Make a Scene – Manchester’s self-styled ‘big gay film club’ – are hosting screening parties for the show all summer. The first takes place this Sunday at the newly-refitted Tribeca in the Village. Watch the first two episodes, and join in a big, ball-culture-inspired bash. Enjoy 1980s house music, a runway, vogue workshops, trophies and cocktails. Visitors are encouraged to dress up, and the theme is ‘royalty’. It’s pay-what-you-can, and all profits go to the performers and to the trans youth charity Mermaids. Ahead of the big day, there’s plenty of time to check out seminal documentary film, Paris Is Burning (1990) if you haven’t already, of course, which depicts the story behind Pose. We *think* it’s streamable on Netflix.
