Veganism is an increasingly popular lifestyle choice, with more and more people choosing meat and dairy free options. A great way to try out veganism is to go vegan for January — known as Veganuary — and in Manchester, you’re spoiled for choice, with loads of restaurants, bars and pubs offering either fully vegan menus or substantial vegan options. Going vegan doesn’t mean giving up on junk food in favour of salads, as Manchester’s famous vegan diner proves. Offering fast food classics — burgers, hot dogs, loaded fries and even mac and ‘cheez’ — as well as a brunch menu including sweet and savoury pancakes and a breakfast burger, V-Rev is the perfect place to try out vegan alternatives to food you love.
MOJO’s vegan menu is jam-packed with delicious bar classics like wings and nachos, all of which are completely meat and dairy free. Try the ‘chicken’ strips, made with seitan and served with Louisiana hot sauce — you won’t believe you’re not eating meat.
Fans of Indian food will already know and love Bundobust, one of the best (and cheapest) places to get Indian food in the city. Their vegan combo for two is only £22.50 and features their famous okra fries and bhel puri.
80% of the dishes at this super cool pub near Oxford Road are vegan, making it a great place to grab a pint and try out some vegan alternatives — plus on Wednesdays, when you buy one main meal you get another free!
With a handful of sites around Manchester, including in the Trafford Centre and a brand new spot in Spinningfields, cool and contemporary Bill’s is launching a vegan menu, featuring some brand new dishes alongside their classics, as well as vegan desserts.

Now with two locations — one in the city centre and one nearer Oxford Road on Jack Rosenthal Street, Vertigo is an entirely plant-based restaurant and cafe, offering fully vegan breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. Their slightly larger venue on Jack Rosenthal Street also has a full brunch menu — including numerous waffle options.
