Professor Salim Al-Hassani will give some insight into the little-known history of women in the development of science, technology, medicine and management in Muslim civilisations. Al-Hassani is President of the Foundation of Science, Technology and Civilisation (UK), Emeritus Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Professorial Fellow in Humanities at the University of Manchester. This event features some of the newest and most exciting talent in the realm of jazz, pushing genre boundaries and playing with electronic, hip-hop, funk, soul and experimental sounds. The line-up consists of Mali Hayes, Jude the Obscure and Lehin, all linked together with resident DJs from newly-established MSC Records. It promises to be an exciting night showcasing some of the local scene’s finest talent.
Paying tribute to Danish-French New Wave actress Anna Karina, who passed away last month, Above The Line are screening A Woman is a Woman (1961), the first of Karina’s future husband Jean-Luc Godard’s films that she starred in. A screening of short French New Wave film Le Coup de Berger (1956) will precede the main screening.
