Record Store Day returns for 2021 – hurray! This time there’s two ‘drop dates’ lined up for us – including Saturday 12 June and Saturday 17 July – with lists chock-full of new, rare and exclusive vinyl releases to get your hands on. Here at Manchester Wire, we’ve put together our Top 5 records from local artists to try to bag this Saturday…

1: Buzzcocks – A Different Compilation Double LP
Formed in Bolton in 1976, Buzzcocks are regarded as a seminal influence in both the Manchester music scene and the punk rock genre. For RSD they bring us ‘A Different Compilation’ featuring all the hits and the classics re-recorded for the new millennium. Originally issued in 2011 – but now for the first time ever on vinyl – this limited edition pink wax disc is a must for fans. Capturing their explosive and hugely popular live set in the studio, the band bring a new energy to those familiar tunes including ‘Ever Fallen In Love’, ‘Orgasm Addict’ and ‘What Do I Get’ amongst others.

2: Dutch Uncles – Cadenza LP
Manchester’s premier idiosyncratic prog-popologists celebrate the tenth anniversary of ‘Cadenza’ with a remastered reissue of the record. Back on wax for the first time since its initial 2011 pressing, this edition comes in a limited edition duck egg blue vinyl. Featuring singles ‘The Ink’, ‘X-O’ and title track ‘Cadenza’ – this Record Store Day exclusive is not to be missed!

3: Elbow – The Newborn 10” EP
May 2021 marked 20 years since Elbow’s debut album ‘Asleep In The Back’ was first released. To celebrate this the band re-release ‘The Newborn’ EP for this year’s Record Store Day on limited edition blue 10″ vinyl. But that’s not all – the ‘Any Day Now’ EP will also be available to purchase on limited red 10″ vinyl this Saturday too.

4: PINS – Piano Versions LP
It’s one year since PINS released their terrific third album ‘Hot Slick’. To mark the anniversary, the band have been working on something special with classical composer and pianist Sergey Kolosv. The ‘Piano Versions’ LP sees four tracks from the album arranged for piano and strings. Featuring ‘Set Me Off’, ‘After Hours’, ‘Ponytail’ and ‘Ghosting’ – the orange splatter vinyl will be exclusive to RSD 2021.

5: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Back The Way We Came Vol 1 (2011-2021) Double LP
Noel and his High Flying Birds look back on their first decade with ‘Back The Way We Came: Vol 1 (2011-2021)’. The double album, curated and compiled entirely by Noel, represents a Best Of record with tracks from the three No.1 albums plus the acclaimed EPs. Available exclusively for Record Store Day, it’s a limited edition numbered, hand pressed, coloured double LP complete with an exclusive art print.
