Committed to championing the world’s most exciting, innovative and diverse creative talent, it’s great to see the live calendar packed to the rafters once more.
Here are a few of our own picks of what’s coming up throughout May.
Fulu Miziki Kollektiv is an eco-friendly Afro-futuristic-Punk-Assemble collective of artists who come straight from a future where humans have reconciled with mother earth, and with themselves.
The multidisciplinary collective is based out of the Congolese capital Kinshasa, where for several years its members have spent time conceptualizing an orchestra made from objects found in trash, constantly searching for new sounds.
Their sound is a message of artistic liberation, peace and an observation of the ecological situation of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the wider globe.
As part of the hugely-anticipated Manchester Jazz Festival—the longest-running music event in the city—Band on the Wall hosts the incredible, multi award-winning tenor saxophonist and composer, Nubya Garcia.
Her debut record, SOURCE, has earned plaudits from all corners of the music world, and the celebrations have seemingly not stopped rolling in, with Nubya winning the Jazz FM Breakthrough Act of the Year Award and the Sky Arts Breakthrough Act of the Year Award in 2018, and the Jazz FM UK Jazz Act of the Year Award in 2019.
In 2021 she won Downbeat’s Critic’s Poll Rising Star Award, Tenor Saxophone; the Parliamentary Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year Award, and received a Jazz Journalist Award nomination for Up & Coming Musician of the Year.

Few groups can claim to have better captured the heart and soul of roots reggae than the Abyssinians; the vocal trio’s heavenly close harmonies, dark melodies, and Rastafarian themes, all delivered with a deep spiritual feeling, have been, and continue to be instrumental in defining and redefining the genre.
