Manchester’s iconic and beloved live music venue, Night & Day Cafe, turns 31 this month, though is facing mounting pressure once more following a noise abatement notice.
Doubling up as their birthday celebrations, Night & Day will host a special fundraising gig on Sat 26 Nov, aptly called Decades of Decibels.
The venue has teamed up with local DIY promoter and label Sour Grapes Records to put on an evening filled with some of the best local bands, including The Lounge Society, Soup!, Deaf Deaf Deaf, Slap Rash and a DJ set by The Orielles.
There is also a live Q&A panel earlier in the day with key officials including the chairman of the Greater Manchester Music Commission Jay Taylor. Tracks taken from the live performance of each band will be curated into a cassette and made available for sale straight away at the venue with remainders being made exclusively available at Mars Tapes (The UK’s last cassette shop).
In a statement, the venue said: “In a critical new development to the story and after receiving a copy of the planning file for the redevelopment of the building next door where the complainant lived, the owners of Night & Day were shocked to find that a crucial acoustic report had not been provided, nor acoustic works completed to the development before it was occupied.
“This was a condition of the planning consent for conversion of the building next door, to ensure that residents were not disturbed by noise from pre-existing businesses in the area.”
You can help support Night and Day by signing this petition, which has already garnered more than 90,000 signatures at the time of writing.
