‘Extraordinary’ Aquarelle Guitar Quartet to close Manchester Guitar Festival at The Stoller Hall

Rounding off a fabulously diverse programme of live music at Manchester Guitar Festival, Manchester’s own ‘dynamic and innovative’ Aquarelle Guitar Quartet performs a mesmerising set of classic compositions from their expansive repertoire at The Stoller Hall on Sun 21 May.

Renowned as one of the world’s pre-eminent guitar quartets, known for its ‘extraordinary ensemble in performance’, the illustrious group has won several awards from the Musicians Benevolent Fund, Tillett Trust and Tunnell Trust across an consistently triumphant career which began at the Royal Northern College of Music in 1999. Alongside many celebrated performances in major concert halls across the UK, including a recital at the Royal Albert Hall’s Classic FM Live, Aquarelle Guitar Quartet has embarked on numerous international engagements over the last decade which has seen them perform in Germany, Spain, Denmark, Greece, Estonia, Poland, Seoul and the Daejeon International Guitar Festival.

Formed of Michael Baker, Vasilis Bessas, James Jervis and Rory Russell, Aquarelle Guitar Quartet’s appearance at The Stoller Hall promises an enchantingly eclectic performance which beautifully embodies the thematic breadth of the festival. Featuring sixteen stirring pieces for guitar, their programme includes everything from Carlos Raphael Rivera’s Cumba Quin and Eduardo Martin’s Hasta Alicia Baila to Ennio Morricone’s Cinema Paradiso and David Pritchard’s sorrowful yet melodic composition, Stairs.

Standard tickets are available for £30.50, while students and under-18s cost just £5.50. Tickets bought for both Manchester Guitar Festival headline events, including Aquarelle String Quartet, are valid for all daytime ticket events on that day (family and youth participatory events not included).
