From Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington to Nina Simone and Elvis Costello, The Stoller Hall’s unmissable upcoming jazz programme features timeless works by some of the greatest musicians in history, performed by a cohort of world-renowned vocalists and instrumental groups who each bring a unique, innovative sonic flavour to one of the defining genres of the twentieth century.
This October, the world-renowned UK jazz vocalist Claire Martin OBE reunites with decorated pianist and arranger Martin Sjöstedt and her illustrious Swedish trio to mark their second collaboration, Almost in Your Arms, a captivating blend of classic jazz forms and contemporary works by Elvis Costello, Rufus Wainwright and Mark Winkler.
Billed as ‘an extraordinary musical journey’, the new album features an array of guest soloists including Charlie Wood, Joe Locke and ace saxophonist Karl-Martin Almqvist, while the distinguished bassist Nikolas Fernqvist and virtuoso dummer Daniel Fredriksson underscore the magic with precise, propulsive rhythm.
Blessed with one of the most distinctive vocal profiles in UK music, Lady Nade brings an achingly beautiful programme of Nina Simone’s timeless songs to the Carole Nash Hall stage, recognising the legacy of liberation, empowerment, passion and love left by the iconic lyrical storyteller and world-changing trailblazer, performed alongside some of the nation’s best musicians.
