Deep dish pizza, a South Cumbrian taproom and a new project from the original Almost Famous team — it’s another busy month of new food and drink openings for Manchester.
Open now, Circle Square’s latest addition is Detroit Slims, which as the name suggests, specialises in deep-dish Chicago-style pizzas.
This is the latest venture from the folks behind Ramona, Diecast and The Firehouse and this time, the team’s signature is 10″ rectangle-shaped focaccia slices, topped with rich, slow-cooked tomato sauce and a plethora of toppings.
Few names hold as much weight in the Manchester burger world as Almost Famous does. So, the OG team launching a new concept, Super Awesome Deluxe, is very exciting.
Located at the former Lono Cove bar site on Thomas Street, Super Awesome Deluxe is open now, serving up indulgent smash burgers in a fast-order takeaway style, with limited daily numbers in order to preserve quality.
Queues around the block are a frequent sight at La Chouquette in Didsbury Village, so any new project from the team was going to be exciting.
Piqniq by La Chouqette builds on the original bakery concept by offering takeaway lunch bites including salads, bakes and excellent sandwiches.
You don’t have to travel far from the OG spot either, with Piqniq just a short stroll through Didsbury and up School Lane.
A brand-new Irish bar in the heart of the Northern Quart, The Salmon of Knowledge has taken over the former Ply premises.
Behind the bar, there are 30 different whiskies to try, stouts and ales from Cork-based brewery Franciscan and Guinness (obviously). In the kitchen, the team from The Last Stop will be turning out burgers and the Irish speciality, traditional boxty pancakes.
Hydes Brewery has re-opened the doors of its popular Stockport pub, The Nursery Inn, following a £250K refurbishment.
The refurbishment of the 1939-built pub, a Grade II listed building owned by Salford-based Hydes, includes a full interior overhaul including a respectful redecoration, new furniture and fixtures totally in keeping with the pub’s original build.
The new design has been carried out to fully complement the building’s Listed status and heritage, enhancing its charming features and retaining all the character of its lounge, smoke room and vault.
Wholesome Junkies has been a genuine pioneer of Manchester’s vegan food scene over the years, so naturally, it was gutting to see the team close the doors of their first permanent restaurant earlier this year.
Now though, Wholesome Junkies is back with a residency at alcohol-free bar, Hinterland, so fans will be able to tuck into the excellent, plant-based junk food classics once more.

South Cumbrian brewery Fell has opened up its first-ever city centre bar in the Northern Quarter. The team have taken over the former Pelican site. Expect an expanded selection of fantastic Fell craft beers, alongside a curated menu of guest beers, natural wines, spirits, soft drinks and snacks.
