The Northern Quarter’s hugely popular menswear store Oi Polloi has been acquired by retail giant JD Sports in a deal that includes their Manchester store and all online assets.

News of this buy-out was accompanied by the reveal that Executive Director of JD Sports, Peter Cowgill, will be taking over as Oi Polloi’s Company Director, steering the outlet through this new phase while original company founders Steve Sanderson and Nigel Lawson step away from the business.

Launched back in 2002, Oi Polloi is a staple fixture of the alternative Northern Quarter scene, specialising in selling a variety of sleek and stylish menswear items – from coats, shirts and jackets, to shoes, belts and hats – from brands like Patagonia, Carhartt, Barbour, Converse and many more.

JD Sports recently announced a merger with Rochdale footwear brand Footasylum and, together with sister store Size?, currently has around 2400 stores across the world – 400 of which are based in the UK and Ireland.

The outlet stocks many big name brands like Adidas and Nike and recently partnered with Liam Gallagher’s clothing outlet Pretty Green. This news closely follows the reveal that Fred Perry is due to take over the ground floor of Affleck’s Palace.
