Peterloo Screening at New Adelphi Theatre (pictured)
2019 also marks the bicentennial of The Peterloo Massacre, an important and tragic chapter in the history of Manchester and of English radicalism. The New Adelphi Theatre at Salford University will be hosting a free screening of Mike Leigh’s 2018 film that brings director’s trademark realism to bear on the historical event, presenting a brutal, uncompromising view of the massacre. This screening is part of the University’s Festival of Research, which runs until Friday.

Anthony Burgess and Modernism Book Launch at Burgess Foundation
On Tuesday evening, the International Anthony Burgess Foundation hosts a launch event for a new book about their namesake. Anthony Burgess and Modernism looks at the authors relationship with modernism, a movement that dominated art, literature and architecture throughout much of the 20th Century. This launch event also features an exhibition of original documents from the man, including a proposal for a book he planned to write on the history of modernism.

IMMERSE at MediaCityUK
Another event from Salford’s Festival of Research, on Wednesday evening MediaCityUK will host this interactive exhibition, aimed at connecting the public to research in a way that tingles all the senses. Special research rooms have been set up to allow you to get hands on with research, bringing you closer to the challenges facing modern science and engineering and teaching you a little about how they’re being addressed. There will also be the opportunity to meet inventors and creators, as well as sample some eco-friendly food at a sustainable market.
