As we featured earlier this week – Deaf Institute is throwing open its doors for five weeks full of socially distanced fun with their Good Mood Interlude line-up. Running from Monday 17 May every single day up to Sunday 20 June, there will be free events – from comedy screenings, DJ sets and a weekly quiz ‘from space’. We’ve rounded up five events you should definitely get down to. Remember these are all FREE, with both walk-ins and advanced bookings welcome. Let’s take a look…

Conquer The Quiz That Came From Space | Every Tue | 8pm | 8pm

Get your quiz-heads on for Tuesday 18 May (and every Tuesday thereafter) for The Quiz That Came From Space. Run by Deaf’s very own Daniel ‘Sav’ Savage – who also co-hosts the Manchester Wire podcast – this weekly test of knowledge returns to the venue from 8pm with even bigger and better questions. From history, geography, music and general knowledge – best get revising now!

Relive a Brit comedy classic with DTV's Phoenix Nights screening | Mon 31 May | 7pm

Each Monday evening sees an iconic British comedy series screened in Deaf’s Music Hall and week three is bloody special. A super club, a king of clubs – episodes from Peter Kay’s legendary Phoenix Nights will be shown from 7pm on Monday 31 May. Book a table to guarantee a spot.

Get down to International Teachers of Pop's DJ Takeover | Thu 10 Jun | 8pm

Ahead of their UK tour in August, electronic outsiders International Teachers of Pop takeover the Deaf Institute with a playback of their latest album POP GOSSIP followed by a full DJ set on Thursday 10 June. The fun starts at 8pm – with walk ins and table bookings available.

Enjoy guest DJ sets from Hot Singles Club & Loose Articles | Sat 12 Jun | 5pm-3am

Fridays and Saturdays are home to Deaf’s Friends and Family DJ nights, with a whole load of bands due to take over the decks throughout the coming weekends. On Saturday 12 June, it’s a double-bill of sets from Hot Singles Club and Loose Articles.

From 5pm to 10pm, get down with Hot Singles Club as they play “everything from the symphonies of long forgotten stoned soul to the esoteric jerkers of world Taboosique.” Next up between 10pm and 3am, Manchesters best all working all class punk party starters Loose Articles take over the venue with their UP THE DISCO! set. Just like their live shows, expect some absolute bangers that’ll go perfectly with a pint in-hand.

Catch a screening of an iconic music doc with DTV's Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck screening | Wed 16 Jun | 7pm

The venue will also be showcasing a series of music documentaries mid-week and while there’s lots on, you should definitely try to catch the Kurt Cobain film Montage Of Heck on Wednesday 16 June. Featuring the Nirvana frontman’s personal archive of art, music, never seen before movies, animation and revelatory interviews from his family and closest friends – this is the only fully authorised portrait of the music icon to have been released thus far.
