Located inside a majestic converted methodist church, Gaucho blends the heady culinary atmosphere of Buenos Aires with contemporary elegance to provide a uniquely sophisticated evening of fine dining centred around their exquisite cuts of beef, utilising the entire cow to deliver consistent textures and irresistibly unctuous flavours across its sirloin, ribeye and fillet dishes, alongside a choice of speciality cuts available in various sizes.

Tucked away down nearby Back Pool Fold, Sam’s – named after the brother of Mr. Thomas – boasts an equally illustrious culinary heritage, as both the preferred establishment of L.S. Lowry and as ‘Manchester’s most venerable pub’ according to The New York Times.
Famed for its ten-day simmered corned beef hash and indulgent pies, Sam’s serves its own array of prime cuts, from 8oz rumps to 10oz ribeyes, as well as a seasonal menu of hearty British classics and cask ales from its historic bar, with flagstone flooring taken from the original Manchester Town Hall.
Located on the opulently moody ground floor of its namesake five-star hotel, Dakota Bar & Grill delivers ‘feel-good food with a fabulously fine twist’, focusing chiefly on 35-day-aged prime cut steaks cooked over coals and seasoned to the guest’s liking.

Billed as the UK’s foremost Turkish steakhouse, Etci Mehmet blends Middle Eastern meat mastery with unrivalled showmanship for a memorable and staggeringly affordable service a stone’s throw from Oxford Road.
Founded in 2017, the wildly popular eatery serves a vast selection of 28-day-aged steaks alongside all the Mediterranean classics. Begin your Etci Mehmet experience with an authentic baba ganoush or sharing kebab before choosing from New York strips, filet mignon, T-bones and Porterhouses, or dive headlong into the unapologetic pageantry with a £200 24-carat gold leaf Tomahawk.
While the city centre captures most of the coverage for its esteemed 200-cover steakhouses, Prestwich’s South American prime cut specialists Gorge deserve a prominent spot in the pantheon of Manchester’s meat-based heavy-hitters through their colossal flame-grilled Tomahawks, 60-day aged lean flank Fraldinhas and sizzling Brazilian Picanha Na Chapas.
Since landing in its stunning new Grade II-listed home on Peter Street, Blacklock’s impact has been as immediate as it has been impressive. The basement venue, a former textile merchants, has been carefully restored to reveal its original features and it looks fantastic.
On the menu, the steak offering veers towards less common, more affordable cuts such as a ‘sixth ribe-eye’, which is available for just £21. With that in mind, there may be sceptics who assume that would lead to a dip in quality or taste — this couldn’t be further from the case. It’s abundantly clear that the experienced team know exactly how to coax every last ounce of flavour out of these cuts, and the calibre of cooking, at this price point, makes it a seriously welcome addition to Manchester.
