With Warehouse Project kicking off at Depot, Mayfield at the weekend, clubbing season is well and truly hotting up and there’s plenty to choose from in October’s listings. Highlights include a final bash from party people Pretty Pretty Good, a reunion event with some Hacienda legends, and an eclectic Warehouse Project event starring Mura Masa, Black Midi and Joy Orbison. Plus the new season at Gorilla continues with a tribute to Manchester’s Acid scene.
If you’re looking for something a little off-piste, as part of #NationalAlbumDay, Mancunion electronic pioneers 808 State will be taking over Piccadilly Records on 12 October to celebrate the release of their new album, Transmission State. They’ll be there from the afternoon into the evening for an album signing and in-shop rave.

Gorilla is getting transformed into an Intergalactic Disco dream for a big birthday party with an extra special headliner. Superhero of soul Late Nite Tuff Guy is stepping up to destroy the dance floor in a night you surely won’t forget. Support is provided by Surco residents whose 4th birthday promises a unique party with “wacky surroundings” and a “release from the negativity of reality”.
Female-led antics at The White Hotel this month see Moxie return to Manchetser with her On Loop project, for the first time at The White Hotel. The mighty Josey Rebelle and Eclair Fifi join her for a night which promies. The rest of Moxie’s On Loop tour sees the likes of Ben UFO, Shanti Celeste Dan Shake, Willow and OK Williams join her for nights in Liverpool, Bristol and Edinburgh.

It might be that most of the month’s good nights are all happening at once. Northern Quarter record shop extraordinaries Eastern Bloc have put together a mighty showcase of regulars and residents including Mark Turner (Hybrid), Kerrie (Live), Means&3rd, Jim Bane and Akaram for a mighty 7-hour party in home-from-home, The White Hotel. Expect the usual: measured mayhem and quality music.
This night confirms that you’re well and truly spoilt for choice on the 12th. Pretty Pretty Good, who are now national party promoters, present this tasty line-up for their final event in Manchester. And they’re going out with a bang. Roman Flügel, one of the most influential and evolving figures in dance music will head to the basement of Soup Kitchen to showcase his expertise in ambient, IDM and house, to techno, electro and everything in between. Berlin-based Alienata (Discos Atónicos / Cultivated Electronics) joins him, promising “crazy sounds in general”, plus support from Control residents Wow & Flutter. All in all, not one to be missed.
Gorilla’s Autumn/Winter season continues with a night celebrating the legacy and longstanding love for Acid. Veteran DJs Posthuman and ex-Hacienda resident Jon Dasilva step in for support alongside headliners Luke Vibert (Planet Mu / Ninja Tune), Ceephax Acid Crew and DMX Krew, for some b2b action. Manchester’s new intimate, 200-capacity club plays host to one of the most notable techno originators this month. Electronic Beats calls him the “Tekfather” – one of the key innovators of the form. You won’t want to miss this special event in such an intimate space. Suitable support comes in from Meat Free’s Aalice.
Mura Masa head up this not-yet-sold-out Warehouse Project event. NAO, Black Midi Special Request and Joy Orbison will also be playing, in addition to Jacques Greene, Vegyn, Jadu Heart and more. Now Wave DJs will be kicking off the night in style.
The father-daughter duo of benchmark producer Robert & Lyric Hood go behind the decks at Gorilla for a night of euphoric disco, funk and soul styled house. Motor Cortex and Sharples head up the support.
Project 13 Mcr are set to bring the one and only Skee Mask to Salford’s dark and dingy TWH for a night of epic, sonic proportions, part of TWH’s impressive Autumn season. The illusive producer will be joined by Ilian Tape’s Stenny and Magic Power’s Victor. Tickets will be flying to make sure you act fast.

The live project Nihiloxica brings together the indigenous percussion group Nilotica Cultural Ensemble, and analogue synths for a hybrid take on traditional Buganda and Busogo sonics from the Kampala region of Uganda, appearing via the esteemed Nyege Nyege Tapes imprint.
