ANOTHER bank holiday weekend. It’s our last for a while now, though, so lap up these freebies whilst you’ve still got the extra time to do so.

HOMEwarming weekend ft. First Street Party and HOME’s first exhibition
If you haven’t bobbed down to the reincarnation of Cornerhouse, HOME, yet, then this weekend marks your best opportunity to do precisely that. As part of the HOMEwarming festivities, there’s a First Street Party that welcomes all of the neighbourhood’s newest names to the area with a day of theatre, street food, DJs and more. From Friday you’ll also find HOME’s first exhibition, The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things, tying in with the inaugural visual art programme theme of Transactions of Desire through new commissions and existing art works, all exploring heartache, desire, devotion, lust, desperation, denial, longing, devastation, discipline, temptation, sex, obsession, passion, intimacy…
Exhibition: Fri 22 May 2015 – Sun 26 Jul, HOME, 2 Tony Wilson Place, M15 4FN, 12 – 8pm (Sun 12 – 6pm), FREE, www.homemcr.org

#HookedOnMusic at MOSI
A rave for all ages, MOSI’s #HookedOnMusic Silent Disco lets you strut your stuff in the name of science. With each set of headphones programmed with three different channels of catchy tunes for different age brackets, the experiment records your reactions and responses to what your hear, and explores the reasons for you switching the channels. As a result, you and your dancing shoes can help researchers and scientists gain a better understanding of what makes various musical features so damn catchy.
Sat 23 – Sun 31 May, MOSI, Liverpool Road, M3 4FP, Silent disco starts at 11.20am, 12.20pm, 1.20pm and 2.20pm, FREE, www.mosi.org.uk

The Turkish Art of Paper Marbling Workshop
We’re throwing a wildcard in now with a creative, hands-on workshop in Ebru (paper marbling), a method of aqueous surface design that produces patterns similar to smooth marble or other types of stone. In this session you’ll get to try your hand at something a little different, whilst also learning more about the legacy behind Ebru with an introductory talk on the history of Ebru art by Professor Salim Ayduz.
Sat 23 May, British Muslim Heritage Centre, College road, Whalley Range, M16 8BP, 1 – 5pm, FREE, www.eventbrite.com

Chorlton Arts Festival
The suburban Manchester festival bows out this weekend – but not without a few fireworks. Whilst many of the events are ticketed, there’s also a bounty of great freebies to look out for, including a free performance from Hidden Track Theatre, who work to their strength with making new theatre outside of traditional spaces with Scavengers, a playful experience taking place on Chorlton Green on Saturday and Sunday at 6pm. As well as this, there’s an acoustic night at Mono on Friday from 8.30pm, the CAF All Dayer at Dulcimer throughout Sunday afternoon featuring psychedelic blues from Hey Bulldog, soulful quartet The Yellhounds, London-based four piece Mama Moonshine and Vinny Peculiar. The official festival closing party is also free – head to The Beagle for an Eighty Six takeover.
Until Sun 24 May, Various venues and times, www.chorltonartsfestival.com

Elsewhere there’s also a free birthday party for Deaf Institute (the big 7, toot toot!), a Dot to Dot takeover at Guerrilla Eats, and green-fingered fun at Levy Market.
